The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) congratulates the people of Ghana for conducting a peaceful and democratic election, and we extend our congratulations to President-elect John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on his decisive victory.

Mahama’s return to the presidency marks a significant moment in Ghana’s political journey. As a former president, serving from 2012 to 2017, Mahama is no stranger to the challenges of governance. Ghana currently faces critical challenges, including economic instability, youth unemployment, and a rising cost of living. The people of Ghana have placed their trust in Mahama to prioritise these issues and deliver tangible solutions that improve their daily lives.

While his previous tenure faced its share of criticism, this renewed mandate provides Mahama with an opportunity to address Ghana’s pressing issues and usher in a new era of progress for the country. Additionally, we urge the new administration to safeguard the rights and freedoms of all Ghanaians, particularly as the country grapples with the troubling rise of legislation targeting LGBTQ+ communities. True freedom and democracy can only flourish when all citizens, regardless of identity, are afforded dignity and equality under the law.

Ghana has built a remarkable reputation as one of Africa’s most stable democracies. Over the past 31 years, the country has conducted nine successful elections, which have resulted in three peaceful transfers of power between different political parties. This commitment to democratic principles is a source of pride for Ghana and serves as an example for the entire continent. The consistent adherence to constitutional term limits by Ghanaian leaders further strengthens the nation’s democratic credentials and ensures the stability that is essential for progress.

Ghana’s significance in Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa cannot be overstated. From its pioneering role in achieving independence under the visionary leadership of Kwame Nkrumah, to its dedicated support for liberation movements across the continent, Ghana has long been a symbol of Pan-Africanism.

The EFF also reflects with pride on the meeting earlier this year between our Commander-in-Chief, Julius Malema, and President-elect Mahama in Ghana, when Malema went to pay respects to him. This interaction highlights the EFF’s commitment to fostering continental unity and solidarity, as the liberation and prosperity of one African nation are intertwined with the entire continent.

We call on President-elect Mahama to use this opportunity to deliver meaningful change for the people of Ghana, to address the economic and social challenges facing the country, and to reignite the Pan-African spirit that Ghana has long championed. The EFF stands in solidarity with the people of Ghana and looks forward to witnessing their continued progress.
