The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) extends our well wishes to the Muslim community in South Africa and across the world as they begin the sacred month of Ramadan. This is a time of deep spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and devotion, where millions of Muslims engage in fasting and prayer as an expression of faith and submission.

Ramadan is observed as a commemoration of the month in which the Holy Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. It is a period of intense worship, self-purification, and sacrifice, where fasting from dawn to sunset serves as a means of strengthening one’s faith, and fostering empathy for those who are less fortunate.

The EFF calls on all employers, schools, and institutions to show understanding and kindness towards our Muslim brothers and sisters as they observe their fasts. We urge workplaces to accommodate Muslim employees, ensuring they are treated with dignity and allowed the necessary time for prayer and breaking their fasts. Schools and universities must also provide a supportive environment for Muslim students, respecting their religious obligations during this important time.

As the Muslim community marks this sacred month, we encourage them not to forget their fellow Muslims in Palestine, Sudan, and other parts of the world where they face persecution, violence, and displacement. Please stand in solidarity with them and pray that they will soon be free from oppression and injustice. The struggle for their freedom is a struggle for all who believe in humanity and justice.

May this Ramadan bring peace, reflection, and renewal to all who observe it. May it strengthen our collective commitment to building a just and equal society.

Ramadan Mubarak!
