The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) extends our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the former Speaker of the National Assembly Thandi Modise, on the tragic passing of her beloved child, Tsholofelo Mandisa Modise.

This is an unimaginable loss, and we mourn alongside the Modise family in this difficult time. No parent should ever have to endure the pain of burying their child. The grief of such a loss is immeasurable, and we can only imagine the deep sorrow that Mama Thandi and her loved ones are experiencing.

Thandi Modise is not just a leader of our people but a veteran of our liberation struggle—one who dedicated her youth to the fight against the brutal apartheid regime. As a fearless operative of Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK), she was detained, tortured, and imprisoned for her role in the fight for freedom. It was during this dark period of oppression that her daughter, Tsholofelo Mandisa, was born into captivity while her mother was in detention. Tsholofelo’s very existence was tied to the struggle for justice, born at a time when Black people were subjected to the worst forms of dehumanisation.

We, therefore, call on society to offer support and solidarity to Mama Thandi Modise and her family in this moment of grief. As the EFF, we extend our sympathies and wish them strength, comfort, and healing during this devastating time.

May Tsholofelo Mandisa Modise rest in eternal peace.
