The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) announces the relocation of our 12th Anniversary celebration, originally scheduled to take place in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape on the 26th of July. This difficult but necessary decision comes in light of the catastrophic flooding and extreme weather conditions that have devastated communities across the Eastern Cape.

Thousands of people have been displaced, and over 100 lives have been lost, with many still missing. Roads, homes, schools, and critical infrastructure have been washed away, leaving families stranded and without access to basic services. The provincial government has declared several municipalities as disaster zones, and emergency services are stretched beyond capacity as they respond to this humanitarian crisis.

In these tragic circumstances, it would be insensitive, inhumane, and politically irresponsible to proceed with a celebration of our 12th Anniversary in a region that is grieving, suffering, and in urgent need of focused support and solidarity.

The EFF once again conveys our deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones, and express our solidarity with all those affected. We continue to call for a coordinated and transparent disaster response by the government and all relevant agencies to provide shelter, food, medical care, and infrastructural repair to the affected communities.

As a movement rooted in the struggles of the poor and working class, the EFF remains committed to standing with our people in their time of need. To this end, the Commander in Chief and President of the EFF, Julius Malema, will visit Mthatha and surrounding affected areas this Saturday, 28 June 2025, to assess the extent of the damage, and engage with affected communities. Further details regarding this visit will be communicated in due course.

The EFF’s 12th Anniversary celebration will now be held in Cape Town, Western Cape, on the 26th of July 2025. The specific venue and programme details will be announced soon.
